Drop Forged Anchor Shackle | RR-C-271 Heavy Duty Rigging | ASME B30.26 Bow Shackle

Uncompromising Strength for Critical Overhead Connections.
The Yokelink Drop Forged Anchor Shackle (also known as a Bow Shackle) is engineered to provide a high-capacity, reliable pivot and connection point for overhead power transmission lines, tower guying, and heavy industrial rigging. Its generous O-shaped bow design accommodates multiple line attachments and allows for side-loading or angular tension without sacrificing structural integrity.

    Engineered to Federal Specification RR-C-271:
Safety is non-negotiable in overhead utility lines. Yokelink anchor shackles are integrally drop-forged from premium high-yield carbon steel or alloy steel in strict accordance with Federal Specification RR-C-271 (Type IVA) and ASME B30.26. This guarantees uniform grain alignment, exceptional fatigue resistance, and an engineered 5:1 or 6:1 design safety factor.

Secure Locking Configurations & HDG Shield:
Available in Screw Pin (for quick assembly/disassembly) and Bolt Type with Cotter Pin (highly recommended for permanent, high-vibration utility applications to prevent accidental backing out). The complete shackle assembly is fully Hot Dip Galvanized to ASTM A153 to ensure decades of rust-free service in severe outdoor coastal and environments.

Key Technical Features of Anchor Shackle

Industry Standard: Fully compliant with Federal Specification RR-C-271 and ASME B30.26.

Premium Forging: Drop-forged body and pin deliver vastly superior load limits over cast hardware.

Secure Pin Options: Screw pin or safety bolt type with stainless steel cotter pin.

Corrosion Protection: Heavily Hot Dip Galvanized (HDG) per ASTM A153 standards.

Versatility: Wide bow profile allows for multi-directional connections and side-loading.

    Production Process of Anchor Shackle

High strength carbon steel bars are cut into blanks and hot forged into shackle body. Flash is removed and surfaces smoothed. Pin holes and threads are precisely machined, followed by quenching and tempering for high tensile strength. All parts receive hot-dip galvanizing for anti-corrosion. Final dimensional, load and appearance inspections are done before packaging.

Yokelink Quality Control and Testing Equipments for Anchor Shackle

We don't just reference FF-C-450 standards; we also verify them in practice: each batch of products undergoes destructive tensile testing in our internal laboratory to ensure load performance exceeds the minimum requirements of ASME B30.26. IEEE C135.2 or CSA C83 specification; we use optical comparators to ensure the geometric accuracy of chamfered tips and rolled threads, enabling convenient on-site installation; at the same time, we conduct comprehensive testing on Rockwell hardness, coating thickness, and other parameters, and each shipment is accompanied by the original manufacturer's material specifications (MTRs) and quality inspection reports, with all data traceable back to the raw material furnace number.

    Application of Anchor Shackle

Anchor shackle is a high-strength connecting fitting widely used in power engineering, marine rigging, tower guying and hoisting industries. It serves as a flexible connection for steel wire ropes, anchor rods and tension components to transfer heavy loads safely. With excellent mechanical strength and galvanized corrosion resistance, it adapts to harsh outdoor and marine environments. It is commonly applied for line anchoring, equipment lifting and tension fixing in various engineering projects.

    Yokelink Product Quality Inspection Report

We provide comprehensive inspection services for machine bolts, including SGS test bolts and formal Production Part Inspect Report (PPIR). The SGS tests verify the bolts’ compliance with international standards like ASTM A307 and IEEE C135.80, covering mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. The PPIR details all inspection items, ensuring each machine bolt meets dimensional, performance and quality requirements, providing reliable quality assurance for overhead line and industrial applications.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What is the mechanical difference between an Anchor Shackle and a Chain Shackle?

A: The difference is the shape of the body. An Anchor Shackle (Bow Shackle) features a large, O-shaped rounded bow. This allows it to take loads from multiple angles or connect multiple fittings at once. A Chain Shackle (D-Shackle) has a narrow, straight U-shaped body, designed strictly for straight line, in-line pulling. In overhead line construction and guying, Anchor Shackles are heavily preferred due to their versatility.

Q2: When should I choose a Screw Pin vs. a Bolt-Type Anchor Shackle for utility poles?

A: Screw Pin shackles are ideal for temporary applications or lines that require frequent maintenance, as the pin can be removed quickly. However, for permanent overhead lines or tower guying, you must use a Bolt-Type shackle (which uses a bolt, hex nut, and stainless steel cotter pin). High winds cause continuous line vibration, which can slowly unscrew a screw pin, whereas a bolt-type shackle physically locks the assembly in place, preventing catastrophic drops.

Q3: What does RR-C-271 Type IVA compliance mean for Yokelink shackles?

A: RR-C-271 is the ultimate Federal Specification for shackles in the Americas. Type IVA specifically designates a drop-forged anchor shackle. Compliance guarantees that the steel has gone through rigorous metallurgical checks, possesses an exact physical dimension range, and fulfills the strict safe load-to-destruction safety factors required by major engineering procurement corporations (EPCs).

Q4: Can an anchor shackle be side-loaded, and does it reduce the Working Load Limit (WLL)?

A: Yes, because of its rounded bow, an Anchor Shackle can handle angular or side-loading, but its WLL must be derated based on the angle of stress. According to ASME B30.26, a 45-degree angle load reduces the shackle's efficiency to 70% of its rated WLL, and a 90-degree side-load reduces it to 50%. Chain (D) shackles should never be side-loaded.

Q5: Why is the pin on your hot-dip galvanized shackles sometimes painted a distinct color?

A: In the international rigging and utility industries, many premium manufacturers paint the pins of forged shackles to serve as a quick visual indicator of the shackle's grade or brand authenticity in the field. All Yokelink shackle pins are fully Hot Dip Galvanized to ASTM A153 beneath any marking layer to ensure that corrosion resistance is never compromised, matching the heavy protection of the shackle body.
