A 193 B8 Heavy Hex Bolt Heat treatment and mechanical properties
Heat treatment process:
Solution annealing (Carbide Solution Treatment): Heating to 1100-1200°C and then cooling rapidly (such as water quenching) to dissolve carbides to improve corrosion resistance18.
Strain hardening (Strain Hardening): Class 2 and 2B increase strength through cold working or cold deformation to reduce the risk of bonding158.
Mechanical property classification:
Class 1: Solution treatment only, tensile strength ≥75 ksi (515 MPa), yield strength ≥30 ksi (205 MPa), hardness ≤223 HBW38.
Class 2: Solution + strain hardening, tensile strength 125 ksi (860 MPa, diameter ≤3/4 inch), yield strength 100 ksi (690 MPa), hardness ≤321 HBW358.
Class 2B: For larger diameters (e.g., ≤ 2 inches), the tensile strength is gradually reduced to 80 ksi (550 MPa), but the toughness is maintained at a high level8.
